WASHINGTON — If you have a car with some room in the back seat or trunk, you could soon be making some easy money delivering things for a service called Roadie.
Roadie calls itself a neighbor-to-neighbor shipping network. The idea is to take advantage of unused space in the cars of people who are already headed in the direction that a delivery needs to go.
Download the free app, sign up to be a driver, and browse through listings called “gigs” of items people need to have delivered and the price they’ll pay.
Or you can post a gig to get something shipped on the cheap.
You won’t find much activity in the D.C. region just yet, but that’s about to change.
The Roadie app launched in January in southeastern states only, and it has just expanded to all 50 states.
Roadie also has a partnership with Waffle House, in which the restaurant chain offers free food to Roadie drivers, and its locations serve as meeting places for Roadie users.
