WASHINGTON — Montgomery County police have identified the 18-year-old who was killed by a MARC train Monday afternoon, as Mario Ernesto Hernandez of Gaithersburg.
Police say “for reasons still under investigation” Hernandez was in the area of the train tracks when he was hit. He died at the scene from his injuries.
The train operator did sound the horn and apply the brakes, police say. The operator also told police that Hernandez had the hood on his jacket up, which may have impacted his peripheral vision.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Montgomery County Police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000.
