WASHINGTON — Police in Prince William County, Virginia are investigating a shooting in Manassas in which three people were wounded.
Shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, officers went to the 10100 block of Portsmouth Road to investigate a shooting. Initially, police received several reports of shots fired. Once on the scene, four people arrived at a local hospital, three of them had gunshot-related injuries, according to Prince William County Police.
Two of the wounded — a 27-year-old man from Warrenton, and a 49-year-old woman from Manassas — were flown to a trauma center for their injuries. The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and is in critical condition. The woman was treated for a non-life-threatening wound to her head and released.
The third victim, a 17-year-old boy from Manassas, sustained a minor gunshot wound to his knee and was released. A 32-year-old man was also at the hospital, though it’s unclear if he was hurt or not.
The incident stems from a physical altercation outside an apartment complex. After the encounter, Justin Hunter Platt, 25, got into his vehicle with the others. Before they could leave the apartment complex, Platt went to his home and got a rifle. Upon leaving his home, Platt fired shots at the car. Everyone scattered separately before police arrived.
Platt turned himself into police on Saturday. Police say this incident wasn’t random; it stemmed from a previous verbal altercation between the people involved.
Platt is charged with three counts of aggravated malicious wounding. He’s being held without bond, and his court date is pending.
