RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia schools and teachers are being recognized for their role in teaching financial literacy.
The Virginia Department of Education says the state’s educators are being honored by the non-profit group Working in Support of Education.
Officials say 148 Virginia public schools and 300 teachers were recognized for student performance on a national standardized test is administered to students at the end of a course on personal finance.
The WISE Financial Literacy Certification test evaluates whether students are financially capable when they graduate. Students passing the test earn the WISE Certified Financially Literate designation.
Schools will be honored and receive a banner at WISE’s annual MoneyPower Conference for Financial Literacy in New York City on Tuesday.
Virginia’s schools comprise 52 percent of the 284 schools recognized nationwide.
