Stewart leads BYU over Middle Tennessee 27-7

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Christian Stewart passed for 316 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score helping BYU end a four-game losing streak with a 27-7 victory over Middle Tennessee on Saturday night.

The Cougars (5-4) were ranked 18th after opening the season with four victories before dropping their next four games.

Stewart passed 37 yards to Colby Peterson early in the game. His 19-yarder to Jordan Leslie in the third quarter broke a 7-7 halftime tie with Paul Lasike going over from the 2 for a 21-7 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Scott Arellano had a school-record 81-yard punt for BYU, the longest against the Blue Raiders in their FBS era, which began in 1999.

Austin Grammer had a touchdown pass and two interceptions for Middle Tennessee (5-4), which had a seven-game home winning streak over two seasons snapped.
