WASHINGTON — You reach for the spice rack almost every time you cook.
But the chances are many of your spices have expired.
Karen Page, author of “The Flavor Bible,” says spices should be replaced every
six to 12 months.
Expired garlic powder isn’t likely to harm you, but it could make your dish less
flavorful.
Ground spices have a shorter shelf life than whole spices.
Spices will stay fresher longer if your buy they them in smaller containers,
keep them tightly capped and refrigerate one in the red pepper family, such as
paprika and chili powder, The Huffington Post reports.
