ABINGDON, Va. (AP) — The Washington County Board of Supervisors has gone to court to recover $50,000 that it gave to a medical school project.
The board sued the Southwest Virginia School of Medicine last week. The lawsuit filed in Washington County Circuit Court seeks repayment of the money, along with associated court an attorney’s fees.
Board chairman Phillip McCall tells The Bristol Herald Courier (http://bit.ly/1xm9ODd ) that the board believes the medical school project hasn’t lived up to its side of an agreement with the county.
The board allowed the agreement to expire in January. It had advanced the money to the project last year.
McCall says the county is no longer affiliated with the project and wants its money back.
The project’s attorney, Jeff Mitchell, declined to comment on the lawsuit.
