TIP-INS
Pistons: Center Joel Anthony, acquired Friday from Boston in a trade that sent guard Will Bynum to the Celtics, has not yet joined the team.
Hawks: Al Horford played in the third and fourth quarters as coach Mike Budenholzer began ramping up his starters. Horford played in only 29 games last season before tearing his right pectoral muscle. Horford tore his left pec the previous season.
BIGS DECISIONS:
Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy has only one more preseason game in which to assess his centers and wingmen. “We haven’t come anywhere near deciding on a lineup.” Van Gundy said before the game. “Nowhere near it.”
JOSH SMITH RETURNS:
Smith, booed for hoisting 3s when he played for the Hawks, is thriving under Van Gundy. “We want Josh in the post and on the attack on the dribble,” Van Gundy said. “His assist totals have been fabulous for us. He’s a very skilled and very willing passer.”
HEADS UP:
The center-hung scoreboard at Philips Arena has been dismantled to make way for a 3D projection system, which will make its debut with player introductions on opening night, Nov. 1 vs. Indiana.
