MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Tank Jake had a sack for a safety, forced a fumble that resulted in a touchdown and made an interception in helping lead Memphis to a 36-17 victory over Middle Tennessee on Saturday night.
Paxton Lynch and tight end Alan Cross combined for a 7-yard scoring pass to give Memphis the game’s first points then teamed for a 50-yard play in the fourth quarter. The 50-yarder was the longest completion for the Tigers since 2012.
Jakes, a linebacker, sacked Austin Grammer for a safety, the first for the Tigers (2-1) since 2003. He later forced a fumble by Grammer that was returned 59 yards by Bobby McCain for a touchdown.
Lynch completed of 21 for 35 for 219 yards, including the two touchdowns and an interception. Doroland Dorceus added a 32-yard scoring run.
Shane Tucker scored both touchdowns for the Blue Raiders (2-2) on short runs.
