WASHINGTON (AP) — District of Columbia police say an officer shot a fleeing suspect after the man hit the officer with his car.
The Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement that the shooting happened Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. in the area of 31st Street and South Dakota Avenue northeast. Police say officers were trying to arrest the man, who was in a vehicle, when he reversed and hit the officer.
Police say the officer then fired one round at the driver as he fled.
A police spokesman tells The Washington Post that police captured the driver a short distance away, and that he had been shot.
Police say both the officer and suspect have non-life-threatening injuries. Police did not say why they were attempting to arrest the man when the incident occurred.
