SONOMA, Calif. (AP) — Josef Newgarden has agreed to drive for the newly formed CFH Racing team during the 2015 IndyCar season.
Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing and Ed Carpenter Racing announced the deal Sunday. The teams will merge next year.
Newgarden’s new contract includes an option for a second year.
The 23-year-old Newgarden is completing his third year with SFHR, earning two second-place finishes in a steadily improving career. He finished second in qualifying for Sunday’s event at Sonoma Raceway in the No. 67 car.
CFH Racing has released few details of its pending merger. Ed Carpenter, the team owner and driver, has shared the seat in his No. 20 car this season with Mike Conway, who says he would like to return to the team.
