Instagram sneaker sale ends in teen’s robbery

KENNER, La. (AP) — A Louisiana teenager who tried using the Internet to sell Air Jordan athletic shoes was robbed at gunpoint by his would-be buyers.

Police have arrested four suspects and are seeking another.

Kenner Police Sgt. Brian McGregor said Tuesday the 17-year-old victim from Gretna advertised the sneakers for $160 on the photo-sharing service Instagram and on Kik, an instant messaging application for smartphones. McGregor said the victim arranged to meet a potential buyer Saturday, but five people showed up.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports (http://bit.ly/1lxkOYa) they discussed the price and the buyers left to get more money. When they returned, one was armed with a pistol and robbed the teen of cash and four pairs of sneakers.

Police identified the suspects through the phone number that was used to contact the seller.
