Netflix and Twitter are big market movers

General Motors Co., up $1.29 to $37.59

The automaker exceeded analyst expectations with a 1 percent sales increase in June, while its competitors also fared well.

Alere Inc., up $2.02 to $39.44

The health care diagnostic and service company’s CEO and two other executives resigned as part of an ongoing strategic review.

Twitter Inc., up $1.08 to $42.05

The social media site hired Anthony Noto, a former Goldman Sachs executive, to replace chief financial officer Mike Gupta.

Acuity Brands Inc., down $20.63 to $117.62

The lighting product and services company’s third-quarter profit and sales increased, but fell short of Wall Street expectations.

Netflix Inc., up $32.50 to $473.10

Analysts at Goldman Sachs raised their outlook for the Internet streaming video company citing subscriber growth.

Salix Pharmaceuticals Ltd., up $16.67 to $140.02

The drug developer reported positive study results for Xifaxan that could help expand it as treatment for irritable bowel syndrome.

iGate Corp., up $2.31 to $38.70

A Jefferies & Co. analyst upgraded his outlook for the information technology and outsourcing company, citing growth potential.

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc., up $20.92 to $303.39

Sanofi SA increased its stake in the biopharmaceutical company and now holds about 22.5 percent of its outstanding shares.
