ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — A Roanoke County dentist is set to find out whether he will go to prison for trying to obstruct an investigation of patient refunds.
Robert Stanley Kidder will be sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Roanoke. Prosecutors are recommending a sentence of at least one year. Kidder is asking for a period of probation, with no prison time.
Kiidder pleaded guilty to a single count of obstruction In February. The charge stemmed from a federal investigation of allegations that Kidder didn’t refund overpayments to patients who had made deposits for treatment.
FBI agent Bryan Emmerson testified that Kidder fired an employee who discovered the overpayments. He said Kidder also staged a burglary and stole his own computer in an attempt to thwart the investigation.
