Expect major traffic delays this weekend

WASHINGTON — Give yourself some extra time on the roads and rails Saturday. It’s a perfect weekend to head to the beach but there will be some traffic delays.

In Maryland, two lanes will be closed on Eastbound Route 50 near the Aris T. Allen Boulevard starting at 8 p.m. All eastbound lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. Saturday until about 5 a.m. Sunday. Maryland State Highway crews will be repairing a drainage pipe that caused a three-foot sinkhole earlier this month.

Also in Maryland, the Dew Tour skateboarding event in Ocean City will cause traffic jams. The Maryland Transportation Authority says it will implement two-way traffic operations, weather permitting. It’s best to travel during off-peak hours.

In Leesburg, DC United Soccerfest will cause delays on Route 15 near Tutt Lane Saturday morning and afternoon.

Three stations are closed on Metro for service adjustments – Dupont Circle, Farragut North, and the Red Line platform at Metro Center.
