America satisfied its need for speed Sunday.
Ryan Hunter-Reay used a series of daredevil moves in a thrilling final lap to become the first Yank since 2006 to win the Indy 500. “I’m a proud American boy, that’s for sure,” he said in Victory Lane.
But Kurt Busch’s dreams of being only the second driver to successfully complete two races in one day were dashed by a blown engine near the end of NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600. Busch had finished sixth at Indy, and helicoptered to North Carolina for the Coca-Cola 600. The only other driver to finish both races in the same day is Tony Stewart.
Here’s a collection of images from the track.
