SILVER SPRING, Md. – Montgomery County fire officials say a resident has died in a fire in an apartment at a large senior citizens community in Silver Spring.
The fire at Leisure World was reported about 12:20 p.m. Wednesday. The two- alarm blaze broke out in an apartment on the ninth floor of the 10-story building located in the 15700 block of Interlachen Drive.
More than 75 firefighters battled the blaze, which was extinguished in about 15 minutes.
Officials with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue say the cause of the fire and the resident’s death are under investigation.
According to its website, the Leisure World community has about 8,500 residents.
