WASHINGTON — Michael Hastings’ widow Elise Jordan sat down with Piers Morgan on Monday for her first interview since her husband’s death.
“My gut here is that this was really just a tragic accident,” she said. “I’m very unlucky and the world was very unlucky.”
Jordan spoke about how she’s doing, conspiracy theories and the status of the investigation.
Hastings, 33, was killed early morning on June 18 in a single-vehicle crash in L.A.’s Hancock Park neighborhood.
Hastings was a journalist and author whose work appeared in publications including Newsweek, GQ and Rolling Stone. He was best-known for his controversial 2010 Rolling Stone profile of U.S. Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal, “The Runaway General.” Shortly after publication, the president relieved McChrystal of his command.
Hours before Hastings died, he sent an email to the staff at BuzzFeed, where he worked, saying the FBI was interviewing his “close friends and associates.” He also said he was working on a big story and would need to go “off the radar” for a bit.
Since then, some have theorized perhaps his death was not an accident but orchestrated as part of a conspiracy.
Jordan, Hastings’ wife, said on Piers Morgan, “I have no doubt that he was pursuing a hot story. He always had at least five hot stories going, that was Michael.”
Jordan said she is taking life “day by day” and feels blessed for the time she spent with him.
