WASHINGTON – There have been some bad performances of the American national anthem before — Carl Lewis or Roseanne Barr, anyone?
Well, while she may not be as famous as those two, we can add one more rough rendition to the list. Canadian singer Alexis Normand sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” before Saturday’s Memorial Cup hockey game between the Portland Winterhawks and Halifax Mooseheads in the city of Saskatoon in Saskatchewan, Canada.
Yahoo! Sports reports Normand faltered about 15 seconds in — and then it just got worse.
To be fair, Normand is a Canadian singer who apparently had to learn the song. The Toronto Star reports Normand says she was asked to perform the song the morning before the game, and nerves also played a role in her mistakes.
Normand also apologized on Twitter afterward:
I’m embarrassed and deeply sorry. I wish I’d had more time to learn the American anthem. Thanks so much for the crowd’s help! #memorialcup

No doubt it’s been a rough 24 hrs! Thanks to everyone who has sent supportive messages! I also empathize with victims of cyber- bullying.
