WASHINGTON – Former patients of a gynecologist linked to secret recordings have responded to the shocking allegations with visits to counselors and lawyers.
Johns Hopkins OB/GYN Dr. Nikita Levy had a medical practice dating back to 1988. He was fired Feb. 8 in connection with using personal equipment to take pictures and videos of his patients.
Investigators say it will be a lengthy process to determine who – and how many – patients were photographed and recorded.
It’s also unclear whether Levy shared any of those images before killing himself last week.
More than 2,000 women have already called the police hotline.
While the women await the uncomfortable details, law firms are actively pursuing potential clients.
“Attention, this is a legal alert for former patients of Dr. Nikita Levy,” a commercial for Siaontz and Kirk declares.
“You may have legal rights,” says an advertisement for Spector and Kopec. “Call now no matter how long ago you were a patient of Dr. Levy.”
Other law firms have designed special web pages and dedicated phone numbers for the prospective clients.
Last weekend, the Cochran law firm organized a sort of town hall meeting for patients at the Inner Harbor.
The Baltimore Sun reports about 60 women turned out. Several dozen of Levy’s former patients signed up as clients with the firm, the paper reported.
As the potential victims consider their legal options, women from Baltimore to West Virginia have already begun seeking emotional help and support. Three groups of Levy’s former patients will meet this week.
