UPDATE:
The Farragut North Metro entrance at 18th and L Streets has reopened.
WASHINGTON – An SUV crashed into a building on Connecticut Avenue in Northwest D.C.
Police say a red Jeep Liberty went through a window at 1050 Connecticut Avenue around 7:45 p.m.
The driver, who does not own the vehicle, was taken to the hospital.
NewsChannel 8 says an FBI terrorism squad was called to the crash. D.C. police told WTOP’s Michelle Basch that the driver intentionally rammed the vehicle into the building.
Police say he will be charged with felony destruction of property and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
A gas can was found in the SUV, but police say it appears the car’s owner had left the can there.
The building is home to offices, restaurants and stores. Farragut North’s 18th and L Street entrance is closed because of the crash, according to WMATA. The other entrances are open.
The Washington Post reports that patrons dining at a restaurant one floor above felt the crash.
