WASHINGTON – Police say thieves are cleaning up nationwide as part of a new crime trend: They’re stealing Tide detergent.
Law enforcement agencies across the country report an increase in thefts of Tide detergent, which can be resold. It retails for about $15 for 100 fluid ounces, but can resold on the street for $5 to $10, officials say.
This surveillance footage, from MSNBC, shows a man at Maryland supermarket loading his cart with more than 15 bottles of the detergent before fleeing the store. About 40 minutes later, the suspect is seen on another surveillance camera selling the goods to a nail salon.
