Suspect arrested in shooting after high school basketball game

DUMFRIES, Va. – A suspect has been arrested in two shootings that followed a series of fights that broke out after a basketball game at Garfield High School.

Prince William County police say 19-year-old Johnnie Pablito Kamara, aka “Blaze” was arrested Saturday night. They believe he was involved in two shootings that broke out in the area of Old Triangle Road in Dumfries. Nobody was seriously injured in either shooting.

Police say a large fight broke out after the game Friday night. Several teenagers regrouped at Potomac Mills mall where more fights broke out. Police were able to disperse those fights without any reported injuries or arrests.

However, police say two groups later ran into each other around 10:45 p.m. near the intersection of Old Triangle and Heth Court, where another fight ensued. This time, a man displayed a gun and fired several shots.

The shooting dispersed the group, and nobody was injured.

A short time later, the same man fired at two people walking on the sidewalk near Old Traingle and Sigel Court. An 18-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet. She was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other person was not struck.

Prince William County and Dumfries police began searching the area and were able to identify the shooter as Kamara based upon a description from witnesses.

Kamara was arrested without incident Saturday night.
