WASHINGTON — A standout sophomore guard will miss the rest of the Maryland women’s basketball season after suffering an ACL tear Wednesday.
Terrapins’ Blair Watson had been practicing at the time of the injury. She’ll need surgery.
“She was having a really fantastic season,” Maryland head coach Brenda Frese said in a release, “and we are going to miss her presence and playmaking ability on the court.”
“We’ll do everything we can to help her in her recovery and support her through the process. This team has tremendous chemistry and will continue to compete at a high level.”
Watson, a 2016 McDonald’s All-American, is currently the team’s second-leading scorer, averaging 13.8 points. The guard is also the Big Ten’s most-improved scorer and is ranked third in the league in three-point field goal percentage (.441).
The Terps (15-3) lost Thursday night to Michigan State, 82-68. They host Indiana on Tuesday at Xfinity Center.
