Georgetown hires Patrick Ewing as men’s basketball head coach, multiple sources report

WASHINGTON — Georgetown University has hired Patrick Ewing as the next men’s basketball head coach, multiple sources report.

Ewing was hired as the new coach, reported ESPN 980 and The Washington Post Monday.

The Hall of Fame basketball star played for the Hoyas from 1981-1985. The 54-year-old is currently the associate head coach of the Charlotte Hornets NBA team.

The Hoyas have not yet commented on the reports of Ewing’s new job. Around the time the news broke Monday afternoon, the official Hoyas account had a cryptic tweet:

On March 23, Georgetown parted ways with head basketball coach John Thompson III. Thompson, the son of legendary Hoyas coach John Thompson, Jr., had been with Georgetown since the 2004-05 season following a four-year stint at Princeton.
