Former teacher arrested for sexual relationship with student

WASHINGTON — A Walkersville, Maryland, man has been arrested for having a sexual relationship with a high school student more than 30 years ago.

Michael John Riley, 63, who is currently a staff member at Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, turned himself in to Montgomery County police Tuesday after an investigation uncovered his relationship with a 16-year-old girl at Rockville High School during the 1984-85 school year.

The victim told investigators she was a student at the school and knew Riley from his employment as a teacher at the school, and that Riley engaged in sexual intercourse with her in the school and during school hours.

Riley has been charged with child abuse by a custodian, school molestation on premises and school molestation by staff.

Parents of students at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School are asked to call police at 240-773-5400 if they believe their child was victimized.
