WASHINGTON — Police say they’ve identified a man accused of getting chummy with a man who has autism, and then stealing from him.
Montgomery County Police say 24-year-old Kim Prophet spent time building a friendship with the 22-year-old victim.
Once he gained the younger man’s trust, police say Prophet asked for and received his bank account information, and stole his ATM card.
Prophet is accused of posing as the victim, depositing a bogus check in the victim’s account, then withdrawing $600 in cash at a Navy Federal Credit Union branch in Rockville in August.
After police released surveillance video from the bank, they got about a dozen tips from the public that helped lead them to Prophet.
The charges against him include obtaining property of a vulnerable adult by deception.
Prophet is currently in jail in Arlington, Virginia, on unrelated charges.
