SILVER SPRING, Md. — For scores of students across the D.C. region, this has been the school week that disappeared: They have been enjoying a sizable string of snow days.
“The kids are having a good time,” says Emily Noll, a mother in Montgomery County.
“They’ve been playing and having fun,” says another mother, Sarah Best.
Who wouldn’t like an impromptu vacation? Unfortunately, being an adult is less fun, and the offbeat week has brought some added stress to families.
“We had to get baby sitters,” Noll says. “We’re just trying to piece together the arrangements and schedules to make it all work.”
“It’s a little bit of a pain,” she adds.
Although snow days can be a challenge for parents as they scramble to cope with changes, it has been a positive experience in some ways.
“We have enjoyed lots of family time together,” says mother Jane Grange. “It’s been actually really nice.”
