WASHINGTON — Maryland native Katie Ledecky was named USA Swimming’s Athlete of the Year Saturday, for the third year in a row.
Ledecky is the only female swimmer to earn three straight Athlete of the Year awards from USA Swimming.
The honor comes two months after Ledecky won a range of gold medals and set three world records at the FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia.
The 18-year-old graduated from Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda in June. She has committed to swim for Stanford following the 2016 Olympics.
