WASHINGTON — A Montgomery County officer was struck in Prince George’s County during a traffic stop Wednesday.

The crash happened on New Hampshire Avenue south of Piney Branch Road around 10:35 p.m. One officer was conducting a traffic stop on a motorist on the southbound lane, police say.

A second officer, a 28-year-old female, arrived to help the first officer. She parked her cruiser on the roadway and exited to approach the other officer and the stopped motorist.

A driver traveling south on New Hampshire Avenue then struck one of the officers’ vehicles and the female officer was injured in the crash. The driver of the striking vehicle fled. The female officer was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Prince George’s County police are investigating the crash. Police are looking for the suspect.
