9-year-old struck by propeller near Ocean City dies

WASHINGTON — A 9-year-old died after he fell off a boat near Ocean City Wednesday.

A 9-year-old boy and an 11-year-old fell off a boat just before 3 p.m. at Sinepuxent Bay near Assateague State Park Wednesday and were struck by a propeller, said Maryland Department of Natural Resources police spokeswoman Candy Thomson.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, but were not able to resuscitate the boy, later identified as Kaden JT Frederick, of Howell, New Jersey. The 11-year-old received cuts in the incident, but is expected to be OK, Thomson said.

Frederick is the state’s 11th boating fatality of 2016, said MDNR.

Police have not released any additional details about the incident at this time.
