ABERDEEN, Md. (AP) — A passenger train traveling to New York made an unscheduled stop in Aberdeen so that a pregnant woman could give birth.
The Aberdeen Police Department said in a news release that Amtrak passenger Sheera Lowe, of Philadelphia, boarded an Amtrak train in Kannapolis, North Carolina and began experiencing contractions on Saturday evening just after the train left Penn Station, in Baltimore.
Officers Robert Gibbons and Daniel Testerman met Lowe at the Bel Air station, where they, along with Aberdeen Fire Department Paramedic Keith Williams and EMT Judy Hinchmet, helped deliver the baby, Trinity Christina Stokes.
Sgt. William Reiber says the baby weighed a healthy 8 pounds, 5 ounces.
According to Lowe, the child’s middle name is the same as a passenger who provided comfort to her throughout her labor and childbirth.
