5 rescued, 1 missing in Bay Bridge boating accident

WASHINGTON — Rescuers are searching for a middle-aged Upper Marlboro man who went missing after a boat accident Sunday just north of the Chesapeake  Bay Bridge.

According to Maryland National Resources Police,  the man was one of six people in a boat that  filled with water and sunk. A passerby on a sailboat rescued people from the water, but the man was not among them.

Police said the missing man was wearing a red shirt. Anne Arundel Fire and Rescue said a man fitting that description was seen swimming in the Bay, but he was pulled under the water.

The Coast Gaurd, Anne Arundel Fire and Rescue, and Maryland State Police are assisting the Maryland Natural Resources Police in the search.

Among those rescued was the missing man’s son, police said.
