Three charged in Laurel shooting death

WASHINGTON — Three people have been arrested after the May 12 shooting death of a man in Laurel, Maryland.

In a news release, the Anne Arundel County Police Department, says that Anthony Donnell Minick, 22, was shot near the 3400 block of Sudlersville South Tuesday evening. He was transported to Laurel Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Zelina Sharrieff Smith, 45, her brother Daniel Xavier Stephens, 23, and her son Tyrik Zachary Smith, 25, have been arrested.

Police say Zelina Smith drove the two men to the location so Tyrik Smith could see his child. When they arrived, Tyrik Smith and Minick fought and, according to witnesses, Daniel Stephens shot Minick.

At that point Zelina and Tyrik Smith along with Stephens and another juvenile got into Zelina’s vehicle and left.

Within an hour Zelina Smith and the juvenile were apprehended. Stephens and Tyrik Smith were both arrested Wednesday, in separate locations, without incident.

Stephens faces murder, assault, conspiracy and firearm charges. Tyrik Smith faces similar charges including reckless endagerment.

Zelina Smith is charged with accessory to murder after the fact as well as charges related to transporting a handgun.

Police believe Minick was targeted and that the incident wasn’t random.
