One dead after hit-and-run crash involving officer in Prince George’s County

WASHINGTON — A suspect has been apprehended after a deadly hit-and-run incident in Prince George’s County Thursday night.

According to Prince George’s County police, an officer attempted to make a traffic stop around 8:45 p.m. on Branch Avenue near Colebrooke Drive. The suspect, in an SUV, drove away and hit a police officer.

The SUV was spotted minutes later. The driver lost control and hit three other vehicles before coming to a stop, police said.

The suspect, a male, got out of the SUV and ran from the scene. According to police, officers pursued on foot, and the suspect was apprehended about an hour later.

Three people were injured, including the Prince George’s County police officer. The officer and another individual suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, but one person died as a result of their injuries. Police said that person was the driver of one of the vehicles that was hit.

No additional information has been released at this time.
