Loudoun County commuter bus service back to normal; work disruption ends

LEESBURG, Va. – Loudoun County commuter buses are back in full service after an unsanctioned work disruption Wednesday.

“Negotiators for [bus operator] Transdev had no clue that the drivers were going to [call a] sick-out,” Loudoun County Transit and Commuter Services Manager Paul Mounier told WTOP.  “It caught us all off-guard.”

Roughly 35 percent of the service’s drivers called in sick, forcing 14 morning routes and 13 evening routes to be canceled.

Transdev was able to impose a contract that gave drivers a five percent pay increase along with some bonus pay. Transdev’s drivers had been working without a labor contract since February.

“They were all encouraged to come back to work today,” Mounier says, “and they all came back to work.”

Mounier says there should not be any disruptions Thursday as service is restored to normal.
