Metro limits track work during Saturday’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon

WASHINGTON – Metro track work will be limited Saturday due to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, but single-tracking is still scheduled for later that night and on Sunday.

The marathon will shut down streets across the District and come with new, more extensive parking restrictions imposed by the D.C. police.

Cars will be towed if they are not removed from the race route.

Road closures across the city begin early Saturday morning; some run as late as 3 p.m.

Track work

While regular service is scheduled during the day Saturday, Metro plans single-tracking on the Blue, Orange, Silver, Red and Green lines after 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and all day Sunday

The Orange and Blue lines will single-track between Smithsonian and Federal Center SW, with Silver Line trains only running between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston during those times. Each line will be scheduled every 20 minutes.

The Red Line is scheduled every 15 minutes Sunday, with single-tracking between Judiciary Square and Union Station.

The Green Line is scheduled to single-track between Prince George’s Plaza and College Park, but Metro does not expect that work to cause significant delays.

Marathon closures

The event is scheduled to start at 7 a.m., but some street closures are slotted to begin at 2 a.m.

All roads affected by the closures are expected to open again by 3 p.m.

Parking restrictions will be enforced along the entire marathon route — that means both tickets and towing.
