The offerings at CityCenterDC will soon include a juice bar and retail shop, a spot called Fruitive from a Virginia Beach-based juice company.
Fruitive aims to open in late summer, according to signs up in the windows of the shop, which is located at the corner of Palmer Alley and 11th Street NW.
Fruitive, which opened its Virginia Beach store in 2012, comes from brothers Bruce Rozeboom and Chef Casey Hoxter. The brand offers a variety of cold-pressed juices with names both literal and fun — things like “All Greens” to “Beet the Blues.”
The juices are available for individual sale, or as part of a set “juice cleanse” that the store designs. There are also meal-replacement drinks called “liquid meals” that are closer to a smoothie, as well as a menu of bowls, salads, wraps and sandwiches that are focused on fresh, seasonal produce.
All of Fruitive’s offerings are “100 percent plant-based, organic or better.” Many of the juices come in glass jars and the shop runs a recycling program that provides $1 off for people who bring back the jars.
Aldi: The city of Alexandria is getting its first Aldi, the discount European grocer that’s been slowly building its presence in the region. Aldi will open at 4580 Duke Street, the site of the former Tres Hermanas and, previously, Mango Mike’s restaurant spaces. The grocer is tearing down the former building and building a new, 16,356-square-foot store. Geoffrey Mackler and Mike Albo with H&R Retail represented the landlord, former Mango Mike’s owner Mike Anderson, in the lease.
Orangetheory: This high-intensity circuit training workout concept has signed its first lease in the District proper, with a location coming to 425 Eye St. NW in Mount Vernon Triangle. The workout, which combines treadmill cardio, lifting and stationary rowing meant to keep your heart rate in the “orange,” or high-pulse, zone, has five other locations in the D.C. and four others on the way.
Ginger: This Bethesda boutique at 7114 Bethesda Lane in downtown Bethesda will close July 15, according to a post on its Facebook page. The shop, which carries women’s clothing and accessories as well as some gift items, previously closed a location in the Mosaic District in 2013.
