Police: Md. ‘Hamburglar’ arrested; woman stole cash, Happy Meal toys

WASHINGTON — Police in Howard County Maryland say they have arrested the woman seen on surveillance video climbing through a McDonald’s drive-thru window and taking food, drinks and cash.

Jessica Marie Cross, 27, of Springdale, Maryland, turned herself in Thursday morning and is being charged with burglary and theft, police said.

Earlier this week, Howard County police posted surveillance video from the McDonald’s at 8305 Benson Dr. in Columbia showing a woman climbing through the drive-thru window around 1 a.m. Nov. 5 after the restaurant was closed.

The videos shows the woman pushing open the unlocked drive-thru window and leaning inside to pour herself a drink. The video then shows her squeezing through the window.

Police said Cross was inside the McDonald’s for about 35 minutes. Police said they believe she took about $1,400 from the cash registers, a purse, food and Happy Meal toys while inside.

Police said the video also shows Cross attempting to disable the surveillance system and even washing out the cash register drawers to remove her fingerprints.

The surveillance video released by police went viral, and police said they received multiple tips that identified Cross as a possible suspect. Authorities said they are still determining who might be eligible for a portion of the $500 reward money offered in the case.
