DC’s top news anchors raise funds to support breast cancer screenings

Editor’s Note: WTOP’s Hillary Howard is on the 2018 NewsBash committee.

WASHINGTON For the 10th year, D.C.’s well-known female news anchors are joining forces to raise money and awareness for breast cancer services.

The 2018 NewsBash will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at the Wharf’s new Pearl Street Warehouse. Proceeds benefit Breast Care Washington, an Anacostia-based nonprofit that provides breast cancer screenings to women in D.C.’s Ward 8 neighborhood.

According to the data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, D.C. has one of the highest rates of breast cancer incidence and mortality in the U.S. — most of which is concentrated in Ward 8. Breast Care Washington’s mission is to overcome this disparity through extended services, including 3D mammography and diagnostic procedures.

Tickets to NewsBash range from $75 to $200; the event includes cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Pink attire is recommended. Members of the NewsBash committee include WTOP’s Hillary Howard and NBC’s Eun Yang, Angie Goff, Melissa Mollet and Lauryn Ricketts, among others.
