LISTEN: National Guard singing at Library of Congress

The National Guard has been in D.C. for several weeks now, and they are scheduled to stay through March. Amid performing their duties, some members found a way to pass the time and boost morale while taking a break.

One member captured some of his colleagues belting out songs, and it appears their talents could rival the best singers in the world. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the acoustics at the Library of Congress’ Madison Building make it the perfect venue to highlight hidden talent.

The recording was taken by National Guardsman Stephen Hutto, who told Task and Purpose that he heard a woman singing, and when she finished, other soldiers nearby asked another soldier to sing in response.

Thousands of National Guard members descended in D.C. to provide support and protection during the inauguration last month, especially since weeks earlier, on Jan. 6, supporters of former President Donald Trump breached the U.S. Capitol to disrupt Congress from tallying the Electoral College votes that would affirm Joe Biden’s presidential election win.
