PHOTOS: 2023 Tony Awards

Amidst a work strike from the Writers Guild of America, the 2023 Tony Awards goes on — albeit with a lot more spontaneity and no script. We’ll see what happens.

Both seasoned stars of the stage and Hollywood part-timers made their way to the United Palace theater in New York to collect their coveted trophies. Main contenders this year include a puppet-heavy adaptation of the “Life of Pi,” satire in “The Thanksgiving Play” and pure silliness in “Shucked” and “Peter Pan Goes Wrong.”  Tom Stoppard’s “Leopoldstadt,” which explores Jewish identity with an intergenerational story, and “Fat Ham,” James Ijames’ adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” set at a Black family’s barbecue in the modern-day South are also up for best new original plays.

See who shows up and who wins as host Ariana DeBose journeys us through what promises to be an exciting night for Broadway.
