Car Review: Karma Revero GT is a rare plug-in hybrid that will get you noticed

If you’re looking to standout with a luxury sedan, the name Karma might not cross your mind. But once you see this rare sporty sedan in person, you can’t help but be impressed.

A big thanks to the new Karma of Washington for letting me drive this Revero GT. I noticed this rare luxury green machine right away in the lot, even in a sea of new Aston Martins and Bentley ultra-luxury cars, also sold at the same location. The low, long body is visually stunning in person, with curves that seem to melt over large 22″ wheels.

Hop inside and the interior is covered in leather. The heated and ventilated front seats are very comfortable. The back seats are good for anyone under six feet tall. That low roofline hampers head room for taller back seat passengers.

The infotainment system is easy to use and includes a nice sounding system. There is no NAV, instead both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard.

Sliding behind the wheel, the Revero GT is wide and you sit lower to the ground than you would expect in a sedan. Once you start cruising, the Karma can run on electric power for 60 miles or so, making for one silent runner. Select sport mode and the electric motors unleashes 650 foot pounds of torque to propel this large sedan swiftly.

A BMW sourced, 3-cylinder power generator also kicks in under heavy acceleration, or use it when you deplete the batteries to extend the range. The Revero GT handles curves much better than I would have expected. It’s not light at all but this car feels flat and stable in the bends, and comfortable on the normal daily commute.

Cost: $144,900; as tested $154,400

MPG: 70 MPGe; and 26MPG gas only

Options: $1,000 Surf White; $1,500 carbon fiber interior trim; $900 cross drilled brake disc; $900 red brake calipers; $3,500 22″ dune twist wheels

Safety: Audible external pedestrian sound up to 28mph; advanced driver assistance system; blind-spot monitoring with cross traffic alert; lane departure warning; parking distance monitor; forward collision warning; panic brake assist

Things to know: The Revero is an exotic sedan that’s also a plug-in hybrid. You will stand out in the crowd with the rare 2020 Karma Revero GT. It’s worth a look in the six-figure green luxury sedan category.

Pros:

  • 60 miles of electric-only driving; then gas generator extends the range
  • A good driving experience with instant power from the electric motors
  • Standout style will get you noticed

Cons:

  • Not the best vision out of the rear window
  • Karma Revero GT isn’t a household name in luxury cars at this point
  • Sedan with seating for only four
