Frederick residents asked to stay indoors as crews work on downed wires

WASHINGTON — Utility crews are working on downed wires in Frederick, Maryland and police have asked residents in the area to stay indoors until repairs are made.

Potomac Edison spokesman Aaron Ruegg says crews were called to 400 block of South Market Street around 4 a.m. Wednesday after an accident caused damage to two utility poles, causing the power lines to go down.

Ruegg says about 50 customers are without power.

Frederick Police say a portion of the road will be closed for an extended period of time as crews work to fix the problem.

Police are asking those who live in that area to remain in their homes until the power lines are repaired.

Crews are on the scene and expect the repairs and cleanup to take about 4-6 hours.
