Restaurants love to pair wines with foods, and patrons often appreciate the recommendations, so Amsterdam Falafelshop thinks marijuana smokers might appreciate a pot-pairing menu.
Its Adams Morgan location will offer diners suggestions for what on the menu will pair well with some popular marijuana strains.
Getting high on Afghani tonight? Amsterdam Falafelshop recommends a generous dose of baba ganoush, sliced cucumber, onion and dill salad, fried eggplant, crunchy onions and garlic cream.
“The deep calming effects of the Afghani strain are enhanced by the heavy toppings. This pot/sandwich pairing has been known to induce intense relaxation,” the pairing menu says.
How was the research done exactly? In part, personal experience, says Amsterdam Falafelshop co-owner Arianne Bennett.
“We personally at our home only had two strains that were on the list, so we ate our own food under the influence of our own strains,” Bennett says.
Bennett calls the passage of Measure 71 a wonderful thing, something supporters made happen in a city where it is very hard to make things happen by a vote.
Is Bennett worried about offending customers who don’t smoke weed?
“No, I don’t think my non-drinking customers are offended by my drinking customers, so I don’t think my non-pot-smoking customers will be offended by my pot-smoking customers. In fact, I’m, sure they’ve seen them in line before waiting to get falafel.”
All of the restaurants local stores will also be selling falafel sandwiches for $4.20 on April 20 (4/20) a nod to the 420 slang for marijuana.
