WASHINGTON — A water main break in Fairfax County Friday caused a huge sinkhole, and repairs to the crater could cause some traffic delays for people in the neighborhood.

A water main break in the 4500 block of Twinbrook Road near Pickett Road caused a sinkhole, Fairfax County police tweeted Friday afternoon. The break was repaired, restoring service for the 19 residents who lost water during the time, said Fairfax Water spokeswoman Susan Miller.

The sinkhole’s repairs are causing some minor traffic delays, but drivers can go around it easily, police said. Work on the sinkhole may continue into Saturday, police said.

There have not been any sinkhole-related accidents or injuries, police said.
