WASHINGTON — A teenager from Lorton, Virginia, has been formally charged in the double murder of a Reston couple.
Criminal petitions stating the murder charges against the 17-year-old boy were delivered to him in the hospital on Friday by Fairfax County police.
The teen, whose name wasn’t released because of his age, shot himself after he murdered 48-year-old Scott Fricker and his wife, 43-year-old Buckley Kuhn-Fricker, at their Black Fir Court home in Reston, authorities said.
After the shooting, police said, the teen was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
“We can’t speak to his condition at this current time, but we do know that he is still being treated at the hospital, and he did have to be awake for the petitions to be served,” said Reem Awad, a spokeswoman for Fairfax County police.
In the days before the shooting, friends and neighbors said, the couple had stopped a relationship between the boy and their daughter after they found anti-Semitic posts online, which they believed were posted by the teen.
Search warrants state that the boy and the parents were arguing during the early morning hours of Dec. 22 before the shooting took place. Four other people in the home at the time were not hurt.
