Man dead after shooting at Reston apartment

WASHINGTON — Police say one person has died after a shooting Sunday afternoon at an apartment in Reston, Virginia.

Initially, Fairfax County Police said they believed that five men broke into a home near the intersection of South Lakes Drive and Soapstone Drive just before 3 p.m. At least two men were inside the apartment, and some sort of disagreement sparked. One person was shot, another was wounded and the others fled the scene.

Police later said the incident was not “random,” and that the people involved knew each other.

A 24-year-old man died as a result of the shooting, but he has not yet been identified pending notification of next of kin.

Police continue to search for suspects and information related to the incident. Weapons were recovered on the scene that investigators believe were involved.

Fairfax County Police say they do not believe there is any public safety threat to the community in connection to the case.

Anyone who witnessed the incident should call police at 703-691-2131 or text a tip using “TIP187” and your message to CRIMES (274637).
