WASHINGTON — A Maryland man has a Fairfax County, Virginia police officer to thank for pulling him from a burning car Saturday afternoon.
Ybrian Odonnell, 38, of Darnestown, Maryland, was not hurt, but will face charges for drunken driving.
When Fairfax County Officer Sharif Issa responded to a report of a car on fire in the American Legion parking lot in McLean around 3:30 p.m., witnesses told him a man was inside.
Odonnell had struck a tree and his car burst into flames that were quickly spreading.
Issa found Odonnell to be confused when he urged him to get out of the car.
He ended up grabbing him by the hand and helping him walk to safety.
While Odonnell was not hurt, he did fail a series of sobriety tests and was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
