Butter Me Up, the Shaw breakfast pop-up that’s currently ranked as D.C.’s best breakfast or brunch spot on Yelp, is getting a home of its own.
Owner Andre McCain, better known pre-pandemic for his sausage-focused HalfSmoke restaurant in Shaw, plans to move the breakfast sandwich spot to a leased space 1409 T St. NW just north of Logan Circle. It had been operating since it launched in May 2020 from HalfSmoke’s space at 651 Florida Ave. NW, but now that the District’s Covid-19 restrictions allow for in-restaurant dining, there just wasn’t enough room fo the two under one roof, he said.
“We have obviously been allowed to resume operations at HalfSmoke, and because of the popularity of Butter Me Up, — for example, to date we’ve sold over 72,000 sandwiches and sales over $500,000 — Butter Me Up needed its own space. We could no longer continue to do both HalfSmoke and Butter Me Up in the same space,” McCain said.
